Creation of a spherical region of interest in volume space (VOI)

BrainVoyager version: 22.4.6
Dataset used: Getting Started Guide data

This document shows in a step by step example how to create a spherical region of interest in volume space, based for example on an MNI coordinate from the literature.

To start, we open a VMR document, in this case the MNI-normalized dataset of our sample dataset sub-01.

Now we can select the seed voxel of the spherical region of interest by placing the crosshair at the anatomical location of interest or by entering a seed MNI coordinate in the 3D Volume Tools.

For the current example an MNI coordinate of the left posterior fusiform face area (pFFA) has been chosen (Zhen et al., 2015).

After the crosshair has been placed at the correct location, right-click and select "Define Sphere ROI" in the context menu.

In the next context menu you can define the radius of the VOI (in anatomical voxel resolution) and confirm your choice with "OK".

The resulting VOI called "Sphere 1" will be shown in the Volumes-Of-Interest dialog. Here you can change the color and name of the VOI:

You can add more VOIs following the same approach described above and save the resulting VOI file by clicking on "Save" in the Volume-Of-Interest dialog.
